Pro Cables In Use—DSPrototyp

ProPlex® PowerData in conjunction with Neutrik NC turned out the perfect solution to the long standing problem of high power and data in a single cable.

The power section easily carries all the current we need with its superior copper cross section and the well shielded data section has excellent signal performance, both digital and analog.

Still, the cable is thin and highly flexible - enough to handle tight bends in ductwork while also being durable and having low friction, which is important for our product.

It is, simply put, the perfect fit for our application.

For a rover used in duct inspection and cleaning, we needed to transfer a significant amount of power along with analog HD video and RS-485 communications between a control station and the robot.

Typically, this has always been done with two cables - one for power and one for balanced data and video - but this solution is cumbersome and unnecessarily expensive.

Two cables means four connections to be made during setup, twice the real-estate for connectors and two cables that cause friction, snagging or otherwise interfere with robot operation.

We were happy to find TMB cables ProPlex PowerData, which in conjunction with Neutrik NC solved all of these problems in a very effective manner, and with resources to spare.

There are still hundreds of watts of power available to us, should we need them, before approaching the limits of this cable.

We use one data pair for video and one for communications, leaving us with two to spare for future development or customization, such as a reverse facing video feed.
